The foundation of professional conduct

These principles guide professional judgement, relationships and decision-making across the hospitality industry.

Integrity

Members must act honestly, consistently and in a manner that protects public and professional trust.

Professional Competence

Members should maintain the knowledge, judgement and skills required to provide responsible professional service.

Confidentiality

Information received through professional relationships must be handled with discretion and proper authority.

Objectivity

Professional decisions should remain free from improper influence, bias or undisclosed conflicts of interest.

Respect

Members must treat clients, colleagues, employees and the public with dignity, fairness and professionalism.

Accountability

Members remain answerable for their conduct and must cooperate with legitimate professional review processes.

Professional Judgement

Seven tests for ethical conduct

Before acting, a member should be able to answer these questions honestly and confidently.

Is the action lawful and consistent with the Constitution?

Does it protect the dignity of the hospitality profession?

Is it fair to clients, colleagues, employees and the public?

Could the decision withstand transparent professional review?

Does it preserve trust in the Association and its members?

Is the member acting independently and without improper influence?

Would the conduct remain acceptable if publicly disclosed?

Member Responsibility

Duties every member must uphold

Observe the Association's Constitution, rules and professional standards.

Protect confidential and privileged information.

Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose them where they arise.

Represent qualifications, experience and services honestly.

Treat clients, colleagues and the public fairly and respectfully.

Cooperate with lawful and fair disciplinary procedures.
